My name is Crystal Poppler, and I am honored to introduce myself as the new Elementary Principal of Tower-Soudan School. I am thrilled to join this incredible school community and look forward to working alongside our students, staff, and families as we create an environment where every student can grow, thrive, and succeed.

I bring over 20 years of experience in education, with a strong foundation in elementary teaching and student support. My journey began in the classroom, teaching learning readiness and subbing across all grade levels. In 2014, I joined ISD 2142 as a 5th-grade teacher at Northeast Range, where I stayed for eight years before transitioning into school leadership. After leaving Northeast Range I served as the Dean of Students at the Northland Learning Center for a year before taking on the role of Assistant Principal and Activities Director at North Woods School for the last two years. Both of these experiences deepened my understanding of student behavior, academic planning, and building school culture.

I earned my Bachelor’s degree in from Bemidji State University, followed by a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from St. Mary’s University. I later returned to St. Mary’s to complete my Educational Leadership Certification.

I’m proud to be a lifelong resident of Ely, where I live with my husband. Together we have four children, Joshua, Amelia, Alison, and Aubrielle. Outside of school, I’m passionate about the arts. I enjoy directing youth theater, teaching dance, performing in community theater, and playing in the city band. I believe the arts help students grow in confidence, creativity, and collaboration.

As your principal, I am committed to supporting a well-rounded education that includes strong academics, positive relationships, and meaningful extracurricular opportunities. I look forward to building partnerships with you and creating a school culture where all students feel seen, supported, and inspired.
